We are the American Black Belt Academy, the Leader in Self-Defense and Physical Fitness. We have been providing the community with quality martial arts instruction since we opened our first studio in South Philadelphia in 1994. We strive to achieve excellence in technique as well as balance in character. Developing the mind, body, and spirit through training in traditional martial arts. We also incorporate modern self-defense principles and techniques, all in an effort to better prepare our students for an increasingly dangerous world.
Studies have shown that Martial Arts are beneficial to men and women of all ages. Children develop confidence, self-esteem, and discipline. Not only that, but they learn how to become goal-oriented, creating a desire to excel in whatever they do. These are characteristics in which martial arts instill, characteristics that will carry into their adult lives.
Adults have found that Martial Arts are an effective means to lose weight, get in shape, and relieve stress. Also, martial arts are one of the few physical activities in which Parent and Child can participate together, developing a stronger bond, and providing a chance for parents to spend the ever-important "quality time" with their children.
Most Martial Art schools nowadays sell their programs by boasting how many champions their school has produced. While we agree friendly competition is a healthy means to grow as a student, we believe that an emphasis should be place more on molding each student into a great person, not just a great competitor.
Our system of teaching martial arts is the state of the art teaching method for modern times. Each class is build around dynamic energy and a accelerated training style that is Fun, Exciting, Empowering, and Educational.
At American Black Belt Academy we are committed to serving our students, by providing them the highest quality martial arts instruction. We conduct ourselves with the utmost professionalism and we always strive for excellent customer service. To achieve our goal we have implemented martial arts programs that cater to the individual interests of our community. All aspects of our school are arranged to build a balanced relationship of trust and respect with our students. We offer discipline and character building in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that anyone can feel comfortable in.
Our classes are taught by certified black belt instructors, who care about their students, and conduct themselves accordingly. They help students to learn and to improve themselves through positive support and encouragement, not through intimidation!
We have three main goals for our students:
LEARN PRACTICAL SELF DEFENSE: American Black Belt Academy has a system of natural, easy to learn movements, which are designed to allow individuals aged young and old, male or female, to defend themselves against aggressive and often larger opponents.
PROMOTE BETTER HEALTH: In order to eliminate wasted motion and promote increased speed and power, students are taught to become more relaxed and fluid. The way we train also has an aerobic effect. This improves the cardiovascular system (hearts and lungs) and accelerates the body's metabolism, causing you to burn more calories and to lose weight. Regular training also results in increased balance, flexibility, strength, muscle tone, speed, coordination, and improved reflexes and timing! Once in better health, you will not only look better and feel better, you will also have a lot more energy to do the things you enjoy.
DEVELOP A STRONG MIND: In this aspect, our curriculum surpasses all other exercise and sports activities. Our program is taught according to individual needs and levels of skills. Through our instructors' guidance and encouragement, students begin to establish and achieve their personal goals. Students learn that, by setting realistic goals and applying dedication and hard work, anything is possible. They develop a higher level of confidence and are introduced to the virtues of Respect, Concentration, Discipline, and Motivation.
